Ventilation duct inlet grille

Has it been awhile since you’ve paid any attention to the air ducts inside your home, or perhaps never? If it has, you could be missing out on energy savings because of your home’s air ducts. Energy costs continue to rise even though we all try to come up with ways to save, so learning what you can about how your air ducts can affect the energy efficiency of your Altamonte Springs home is a good idea.

Take a look at these 3 ways your air ducts could be affecting the overall energy efficiency of your house and what you can do to solve the problems.

Duct Blockages Make Your Heating and Cooling System Work Harder

A blockage in the air ducts can put a strain on a heating and cooling system, keeping it from functioning properly and at the efficiency it should. A harder working machine needs more power, and that results in higher energy bills.

Your heating and air conditioning system will work harder anytime the air ducts are blocked. It will also work harder if the air ducts are only just coated with grime and dust because it will still cause a backflow. A backflow is when the air is pushed back toward the equipment rather than in only one direction toward the vents located throughout your home.

The Solution:
Making sure there’s no debris inside the ventilation system and air ducts is always a good idea. Your ventilation system is designed to blow air from the unit through the ducts. If the air is being forced back to the equipment, it strains to force it back into your house. Cleaning the inside of the ductwork removes the problems altogether.

Prevents Duct Cracks & Loose Seals

Regular duct cleaning removes the contaminants that age the duct system. It also keeps your HVAC system in better shape for years longer. When it comes to your air ducts, it’s important to be sure they’re well insulated since the attic space or crawl space can get so hot.

Wasted energy is a common problem for homeowners, simply because their ventilation ductwork isn’t wrapped in insulation. Unfortunately, they’re pretty much hidden out of site, so inspecting them where they are will be necessary.

The Solution:
If your air ducts do need insulation installation and you get it done, you’ll enjoy many benefits including extra energy savings you didn’t know you should be getting to begin with!

Controlling Humidity Inside The Air Ducts

Too much humidity can build up inside the air ducts if they aren’t wrapped and sealed well against the air inside your attic. The attic, or crawl space in Altamonte Springs homes get quite humid throughout most of the year.

Too much condensation is not good for your heating and cooling system because too much humidity inside the system causes rust, mold, and mildew, all of which wear down the machinery faster. Not only is too much humidity bad for your air conditioner, but it affects your home’s indoor air quality as well.

The Solution:
By getting a professional duct cleaning to remove any mold and mildew, and then making sure you get an insulation installation and the air ducts sealed, your machinery is better protected from humidity, mold, and mildew.

I had an awesome experience with Josh and his Duck Squad Company - set the appointment on a Wednesday, and he was able to come by Friday. I had purchased a new dryer and noticed that the 'check vent' light (red) was on, coupled with an AF code indicating there was an air flow problem. Since I had spent quite a bit on the dryer, I expected the 'good air flow' (green) light to be on! I contacted Lowes and they delivered me a new dryer, however same problem!! I knew then it was my vent problem and not a dryer problem. That's when I contacted Josh with Duck Squad. He was very personable and professional, even allowing me to lurk over his shoulder so I could see the mess he extracted from my dryer vent. Through discussion, it was clear that Josh is a family man and cares about conducting good business. And that he did! The green light is on and my drying time has significantly decreased! My only regret, is that I waited this long to get it cleaned and how much time, money, and energy was wasted from not doing so earlier. Thanks so much Josh and Duck Squad! I highly recommend!
